  16. announces the availability of Cub'X-Window v5.0, the first X11R6
  17. X Window client/server solution available for NEXTSTEP on NeXT,
  18. Intel, HP PA-RISC and Sun SPARCstations.

  20. With its still increased speed performance, optimized X visuals
  21. and numerous pre-compiled X clients and window managers, Cub'X-Window
  22. v5.0 provides the fastest and most complete X Window solution for
  23. NEXTSTEP.

  26. Cub'X-Window

  28. Cub'X-Window integrates in NEXTSTEP the functionality of a standard
  29. X Window terminal, allowing users to display on NEXTSTEP their
  30. legacy X Window applications running on any X Window workstation
  31. in the network.  Cub'X-Window also provides all tools to port or
  32. develop X Window applications locally on NEXTSTEP.  Moreover,
  33. Cub'X-Window bundles numerous popular X clients (XV, Mosaic...)
  34. and window managers (Motif, fvwm, XView...) already pre-compiled
  35. and ready to run.

  37. Cub'X-Window includes complete communication tools between X and
  38. NEXTSTEP (cut/copy/paste of text, screen grab, automatic launch of
  39. X applications, access of manual pages under librarian...) and
  40. allows the display of X applications in full screen or inside the
  41. NEXTSTEP environment.

  44. What's new in Cub'X-Window v5.0?

  46. - X11R6 client/server architecture
  47. The X11 Release 6 System is upward compatible with Release 5: X11R5
  48. applications will continue to run on X11R6.

  50. In order to ensure total compatibility of compiled applications,
  51. Cub'X-Window Development Tools include both sets of tools and X
  52. libraries for X11R5 and X11R6.

  54. - Support on NEXTSTEP for Sun SPARCstation
  55. The X Window 8 bit pseudocolor visual has been especially optimized
  56. for increased display speed and perfect color tuning.

  58. - Increased speed performance
  59. Cub'X-Window v5.0 breaks the generally observed fact that increased
  60. integration between X and NEXTSTEP results in lower speed performance.

  62. With the implementation of new optimization techniques, Cub'X-Window
  63. 5.0 manages to nearly double the speed of X applications when
  64. displayed inside NEXTSTEP, making this option about as fast as the
  65. option displaying X Window applications in full screen.

  68. Cub'X-Window v5.0 supports all standard X Window visuals (Pseudocolor,
  69. TrueColor, Grayscale) on all platforms running NEXTSTEP. All visuals
  70. are optimized and tuned for perfect compliance with the MIT
  71. specifications.

  74. In addition to OSF/Motif and Tab window manager, the followings are
  75. now available: fvwm, XView, tvtwm, bowman.

  88. Cub'X-Window v5.0 runs on NEXTSTEP v3.2 and v3.3.
  89. Cub'X-Window v5.0 is not compatible with the NeXT Dimension Board.

  94. A demonstration version of Cub'X-Window v5.0 is now available on
  95. ftp.cs.orst.edu in the directory /pub/next/submissions (to be moved
  96. to /pub/next/XNeXT).
